5 Myths about Roof Repair

Get the facts before hiring a company to repair or replace your roof.  Below are 5 myths about Roof Repair:

Myth 1: If I file a claim for my insurance to cover the repair, they will cancel my policy when it is time to renew.
FACT: In most states, insurance companies are prohibited from canceling a policy because you made a claim on a severe weather related event such as Hail Damage or Wind Damage.  Still, before any work is started, Colorado Roofing and Construction will work with you to make sure that your policy does indeed cover the damage and that you actually have damage. Our goal is to make the process simple and hassle free!

Myth 2: If I file a claim for my insurance to cover the repair, they will cancel my policy when it is time to renew.
FACT: Again, in most states, insurance companies are prohibited from increasing premiums on you because a claim was filed. However, they may increase the fees on an area that has been hard hit by hail or wind, causing lots of claims in the area. What does this mean to you: Get your roof repaired if it needs it because your insurance premium will go up whether or not you file a claim – AND if your roof does not get repaired, the long term damage can make your home unmarketable and even in some cases with mold, uninhabitable.

Myth 3: If I get 3 estimates and tell the insurance company I am going to hire the most expensive company, I can keep the extra money.
FACT: Insurance companies are wise to this trick and do not release all of the funds until after the work is completed and they have verified that the work is done and done for the price you told them you were going to pay.

Myth 4: My neighbor had their roof inspected and it did not have any damage
FACT: Damage can result not just from the hail itself hitting the roof, but from the angle it hits the roof – or side of your house. It is always best to get it inspected after severe storms. At Colorado Roofing and Construction, we offer a FREE ROOF INSPECTION with Photos to actually show you the damage so you have no doubts about our estimate – so we’ll have evidence to show your Insurance Company.

Myth 5: My home is new and still under the Manufacturer’s warranty so they will do the repairs
FACT: The manufacturer’s warranty covers defects in their product and does not cover damage due to severe weather such as Hail Damage or Weather Damage. The one exception would be if the product was defective and did not hold up as promised by the manufacturer.
